the man, the myth, the legend behind the bunny
#4 is my favorite...
sing for me!
so i'm waiting at the bus stop this morning listening to the white stripes live album (solid AM music choice, i know...) when a random yet really strong thought came into mind: i absolutely hate it when musicians ask the crowd to sing!
ok, don't get me wrong. i love to sing. i can't sing to save my life, but i love to do it. hell, i even won third place in a kareoke contest while i was SOBER! (sidenote: the six-pack that i won served much purpose at the night's afterparty.) however, i don't go to a concert to hear the crowd serenade me. with all due respect to mr. or mrs. joe shmo, you may sing, and you may sing with all your might. but i came out to hear jack fuckin' white (or insert band of choice here) sing to me! and i expect nothing less!
i guess part of the reason i get so irritated by this is because you know they're only doing it for one of two reasons: 1) they forgot the lyrics; or 2) they can't hit the octive of which they need to sing in. i call bullshit. i don't expect you to sound like the record. hell, i'd be greatly disappointed if i went to a live show and heard nothing out-of-the-ordinary coming from the stage. but c'mon, man... sing for me!
...or better yet: let's all sing together :)

20 years of tall tales
the black crowes webisode series will kick off august 3rd. it's the same day the band's first ever double album is released, showcasing favorite tracks and rarities in an all-acoustic format.
they kicked off their electric/acoustic shows last week and plan on touring throughout the fall and into winter, winding down at the fillmore in san francisco right before christmas. if you have never seen them, or you simply can't wait to see them again (and again and again... and maybe even again), get your tickets and shake your moneymaker because once this tour is over, they plan on going on "indefinate hiatus."
bittersweet.

today's reason to celebrate: national cheesecake day

lyrics of the day
been there, done that, messed around.
i’m having fun, don’t put me down.
i’ll never let you sweep me off my feet.
i won’t let you in again.
the messages i’ve tried to send,
my information's just not going in.
burnin’ bridges shore to shore,
i’ll break away from something more.
i’m not to not to love until it’s cheap.
been there, done that, messed around.
i’m having fun, don’t put me down.
i’ll never let you sweep me off my feet.
this time baby,
i’ll be, bulletproof.
this time baby,
i’ll be, bulletproof.
i won’t let you turn around
and tell me now, i’m much too proud
to walk away from something when it’s dead.
do do do your dirty words
come out to play when you are heard?
there’s certain things that should be left unsaid.
tick tick tick tick on the watch
and life’s too short for me to stop,
oh baby, your time is running out.
i won’t let you turn around,
and tell me now, i'm much too proud.
all you do is fill me up with doubt.
this time baby,
i’ll be, bulletproof.
this time baby,
i’ll be, bulletproof.

so today, national milk chocolate day, head to the store (or dip into your secret candy drawer) and eat some milk chocolate. you'd better hurry though, there might not be any left for you!

today's reason to celebrate: all or nothing day
how does one observe all or nothing day? the answer is different for everyone, but rest assured this is not a holiday to be taken lightly.
all or nothing day is a day to take risks and live on the edge. it's a day to live like it's your last, so be sure to make peace with your enemies, spend time with your loved ones, and to do something you've always wanted to do.
spend today trying new foods, seeking thrills and adventures, and giving all you've got, because all or nothing day only happens once a year!

mad men: recap
so i just finished watching mad men. i wasn't impressed, as i'm often not with first episodes of new seasons. but i do enjoy watching the show. for some reason, i always expect something to... happen. maybe a burglary or someone getting hit by a car? where's the tragedy, people?!?! i do love watching don draper have sex though. mostly because i wouldn't mind having sex with don draper (what?!?) i'm excited for the new season, can't wait to see what happens (especially with betty because she is a miserable, miserable character) and hope that there are more don draper sex scenes in the near future.
the end.
the end.

today's reason to celebrate: national hot dog day
with ketchup, mustard, onions, or relish, no one would argue that hot dogs are truly delish! hot dogs are a timeless american tradition and are favorite food to eat at baseball games and cookouts.
other common names for hot dogs are frankfurters, franks, wieners, and dogs. They are also often the subject of food-eating competitions on new york's coney island and elsewhere across the globe. did you know that the world’s largest hot dog was 1,996 feet long? it was created by sara lee corporation in honor of the 1996 olympics.
the national hot dog & sausage council estimates americans consume 20 billion hot dogs a year. what's a few more to celebrate national hot dog day?

today's reason to celebrate: hammock day
picture this: it's mid-july, the sun is shining, and you feel completely relaxed. this is the essence of hammock day. while the origins of this holiday are unknown, hammock day exists to remind us to slow down, relax, and enjoy summer because it will be over soon!
hammocks have been around for centuries. the earliest hammocks were made in the caribbean, two hundred years before the Spanish conquest. they were later introduced in europe by christopher columbus, who learned about them from the native americans. since then, hammocks have been a necessity on many naval vessels as a place for the crew to sleep and as a way to conserve space.
hammocks can be made from many different materials including fiber, canvas, rope, leather, and plastic. take a few minutes today to chill out, enjoy a summer beverage, and pay hommage to the hammock.

today's reason to celebrate: national junk food day
got a sweet tooth? crave salty snacks? today's the day for you: it's national junk food day!
today is a not a day for calorie-counting or weight watching. it's a day to indulge in all of your favorite snacks. take advantage of this reason to celebrate by guiltlessly enjoying your favorite treats. when else do you have an excuse to eat all of the unhealthy snacks that you know you shouldn't eat, but really want!
grab a bag of buttery popcorn at the movies, have some french fries at the ball game, or get an ice cream sundae for dessert. whatever you do, enjoy national junk food day with at least one of your guilty pleasures! you can start back on your diet tomorrow, right?

today's reason to celebrate: national daiquiri day
daiquiris are delectable cocktails that have been around since the 1800's. the daiquiri was invented by a group of american mining engineers in venus bar in santiago.
according to the legend, jennings cox ran out of gin while he was entertaining his american guests so he began mixing together other ingredients, creating the first daiquiri. this cocktail remained fairly local until 1909, when admiral lucius w. johnson tried cox's drink. he loved it so much that he introduced it to the army and navy club in washington d.c., and its popularity soon flourished into the rest of the country.
the original daiquiri recipe contained white rum, sugar, lime juice, and gomme syrup. today, daiquiris can be found in a variety of fruit flavors and can be enjoyed on the rocks or frozen. to celebrate national daiquiris day., mix up your favorite type of daiquiri to cool you off from this summer heat!

today's reason to celebrate: national ice cream day
"i scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!" you know that any food that has its own cheer is certainly deserving of having its own day (and month too). in 1984, president reagan designated today as national ice cream day.
ice cream is a favorite for all ages that is enjoyed by 90% of the country's population. with hundreds of flavors and toppings, how can you go wrong? today is the day to have ice cream of any kind: banana splits, ice cream sandwiches, soft-serve, chocolate, vanilla and everything in between! mo matter what you are in the mood for, don't forget to partake in national ice cream day!

so last night i fell asleep while watching iron man (please see previous post) and woke up around 4:30am. what's a girl to do at 4:30am?! i was sleeping by myself so i couldn't have sex and i don't have a tv in my room so i couldn't watch infomercials. needless to say i spent the better part of my morning awake and tossing around aimlessly, watching the second half of iron man, and falling back asleep for 45 minutes before waking up and rushing off to work.
i'm cranky and i want to go home. now.

today's reason to celebrate: national gummi worm day
gummi worms were first created by the german company trolli in 1981, nearly 60 years after the invention of the gummi bear. believe it or not, gummy worms were originally intended as a way for kids to shock their parents!
today, gummi worms come in a variety of sugary and sour flavors and have become the most popular gummi candy ever made. customers buy gummi worms because they love the taste just as much as the texture. in fact, the word gummi comes from the german word for "rubber." gummi worms are so popular that they even have their own fan pages on facebook! On these pages, fans express their love for the gummi delights and participate in contests.
sticky and sweet, yet creepy and crawly, these four-inch long candies brighten anyone's day. Pick up a bag today to celebrate national gummi worm day!

iron man: recap
so i didn't love it. i didn't hate it either! ... but i just didn't love it. nobody has said a bad thing about this movie and i don't think i can either (except that i could do without see gwenyth paltrow try to run in heels). but maybe it was because i didn't know the story of iron man (sidenote: i still don't) so i couldn't keep up with the pace of it. i thought RDJ was awesome, i thought the suit was kick ass, and frankly... i can get behind any movie in which humans fly.
moral of the story: i'm sad that i did not love it.

today's reason to celebrate: bastille day
bastille day is a french national holiday that is celebrated annually on july 14th. bastille day commemorates the beginning of the french revolution, which began when the bastille was stormed by the people of paris. the bastille was a prison and a symbol of the absolute power of louis the 16th's ancient regime. while the bastille only contained seven prisoners at the time of its capture, the storming of the prison was a symbol of liberty and the fight against oppression for all french citizens.
because the constitution of france allows the president to pardon criminals, past french presidents used bastille day to pardon petty offenders (usually those guilty of minor traffic violations). In 2007, president nicolas sarkozy ended this tradition.
parisians celebrate this national holiday with a grand military parade up the champs elysees, arts festivals, and raucous parties. so uncork a bottle of frenchwine, or better yet frenchchampagne, and toast our french friends on this day.

celebrity bedrooms
you can stop pretending to dream about where your favorite celebrity sleeps and start snuggling up!!
lyrics of the day
it's only love
it's only love
i wake up with my hair on fire
i need something to water me down
i can't keep walking on this wire
i gotta move, i gotta come around
it ain't gonna kill me
if i can stop before we start
what don't kill you makes you stronger
it's only my soul, it's only my heart
and it's only love
it's only love
it's only love
and i can give you up, yes i can
i wake up with my mind unwinding
i got a strange tingle in my toes
i fall asleep and dream of finding
somebody who really knows
it ain't gonna kill me
if i can stop this before it starts
what don't kill you makes you stronger
it's only my soul, it's only my heart
and it's only love
it's only love
it's only love
and i can give you up, yes can
i need to loosen my grip just a little bit
i feel this love like a stranglehold
but there's something stopping me from losing it
there's nothing harder than letting go
but it's only love
it's only love
and i can give you up, yes i can
but it's only love
it's only love
and i can give you up, my baby

lyrics of the day
you've applied the pressure
to have me crystalised
and you've got the faith
that i could bring paradise
i'll forgive and forget
before i'm paralyzed
do i have to keep up the pace
to keep you satisfied
things have gotten closer to the sun
and i've done things in small doses
so don't think that i'm pushing you away
when you're the one that i've kept closest
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
you don't move slow
taking steps in my directions
the sound resounds, echo
does it lessen your affection
no
you say i'm foolish
for pushing this aside
but burn down our home
i won't leave alive
glaciers have melted to the sea
i wish the tide would take me over
i've been down on my knees
and you just keep on getting closer
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
placid as i melt into the sea
(things have gotten closer to the sun)
i wish the tide would take me over
(and i've done things in small doses)
i've been down onto my knees
(so don't think that i'm pushing you away)
and you just keep on getting closer
(when you're the one that i've kept closest)
go slow
go slow
go slow
go slow
go slow
~ the xx, "crystalised'
to have me crystalised
and you've got the faith
that i could bring paradise
i'll forgive and forget
before i'm paralyzed
do i have to keep up the pace
to keep you satisfied
things have gotten closer to the sun
and i've done things in small doses
so don't think that i'm pushing you away
when you're the one that i've kept closest
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
you don't move slow
taking steps in my directions
the sound resounds, echo
does it lessen your affection
no
you say i'm foolish
for pushing this aside
but burn down our home
i won't leave alive
glaciers have melted to the sea
i wish the tide would take me over
i've been down on my knees
and you just keep on getting closer
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
ahh, ahh, ahh
placid as i melt into the sea
(things have gotten closer to the sun)
i wish the tide would take me over
(and i've done things in small doses)
i've been down onto my knees
(so don't think that i'm pushing you away)
and you just keep on getting closer
(when you're the one that i've kept closest)
go slow
go slow
go slow
go slow
go slow

watching woodstock
thursday night, i welcome you! tonight's feature presentation will be woodstock: 3 days of peace and music (the director's cut). i borrowed it from matt and am super excited to watch it! and since sharing is caring, i'm blogging for all ya'll so it's like you're watching with me. i know, i know... you're welcome :)
now with volume up high and betsey by my side, i explore (arguably) what is the best of woodstock...
-opening with hendrix "star spangled banner" ... predictable but necessary!
- it's always so much fun watching video and looking at pictures from this decade. do i think i might fit in? i think so... but maybe not any more or less than i do now
- there were so many people at woodstock!
- marijuanaaaa presented by jerry garcia. oooOK!
- finallyyyyy a live performance instead of background music. not that i didn't thoroughly enjoy the video montage and such.... but let's rock it!
- richie havens.... not bad, not bad at all!
- poison? bad acid? oye!
- he loves me, he loves me not... he loves me, he loves me not...
- see me feel me touch me heal me
- yea, joe cocker!
- biggest inconvenience at any festival? rain!
- nudity! finally! HOORAY!
- cs&n! yay!
interfuckingmission............ ((to be continued tomorrow night))
so.. it's been awhile. ugh! sometimes i can never seem to follow through on my thoughts or activities. it's definitely a character flaw... but whatever! here i am watching the second disc of woodstock and i'm stoked.
betseyyyy, where are youuuuuu?
- still loving the video montages
- i'm grooooooovin'
- naked babies!!!
- sing-a-long!!!
- old people!!!
- naked adults!!!
- i want to take you higherrrrr
- janis. amazing.
- HENDRIXXXXXXXXXX
- ... hendrix is still going. don't. stop.
- holy shit! what a mess!
- ending with "woodstock" - predictable and necessary!
moral of the story: loved this movie. will borrow again.
but the questions remains: was woodstock the greatest concert ever? and could there ever be another concert representing such talent and for great purpose?

nom nom nom
new york city restaurant week runs from july 12-25 in select restaurants with prix fixe lunch and dinner menus.
who's taking me out?!?! :)
who's taking me out?!?! :)
feeling: pessimistic
i can't really explain it, but why does it seem like my stars never align? i can never feel completely content and satisfied with every aspect of my life for longer than, let's say... a day? - something always needs to be fucked up. whether it's corporate, social, romantic... i just can't seem to get my fuckin' ducks in order. (that is the saying, isn't it?)
i'm fully aware that it's nobody else but me who causes these internal anxieties about eutopia. i don't necessarily believe it exists but it would be nice to smile every once in awhile and not feel like there's some sort of rock above me that's about to fall on to my face and crush me.
ugh, i'm so dramatic.
think. happy. thoughts.

helter swelter
it's about a million degrees in new york city today. yesterday too. tomorrow, as well. probably for all of eternity, if you ask me..........
that is all.
that is all.
weekend recap: july 4th addition
i hope ya'll had a fabulous july 4th weekend! i sure did... aside from working on saturday. BAH HUMBUG!
friday night was spent being lazy in the best kind of way :)
work saturday morning, home saturday night. i finished reading "the death and life of charlie st. cloud" - and i still have no idea if i liked it or not. i'm SUPER excited to see the movie (zac efron. 'nough said) and i anticipate liking the movie better than the book. as most avide readers can attest... this hardly ever happens.
sunday was july 4th and the annual kaufman family bbq. this year some new additions to the fest were included: toys! zoey is now 1 1/2 years old so there was a slide and a kiddie pool and a baby running around in a bikini! 'twas super amounts of fun, as always, because it's great to see family and (your parents') friends. sunday night we went back to hoboken for the fireworks- i had not seen fireworks in FOREVER and completely forgot how awesome they are. the boom, the lights, the colors, the shapes- i loved every minute of it... and i was sober!
monday was funday. it was spent galvanting around central park with some really great company and it was an awesome day... aside from it being 93 degrees out at 6:22PM (according to CNN.) we saw "get him to the greek" which made me cry from laughing so hard. if you have not seen it yet, i absolutely recommend it.
it's tuesday, i'm back at work, but i have lots to look forward to.............
GA-GA, OHH LAA LAAAAAAAAAAA!
